seashore residence:

This speculative project required a building that could endure the harsh elements of the beach climate and a tough neighborhood. The livable space is defined by two concrete walls that are perforated to allow light in while creating a calm environment in a high density context. The central element is a concrete fireplace used to anchor the main living spaces. The house uses thermal mass as a passive solar reaction to the climate by allowing day sun to slowly absorb heat in the slab and keep the house cool during the day and radiate the heat during the cool california evenings.                back to projects
